The Sirimon Track is one of the finest approaches to the peak area, offering a gradual climb and some of the best views of Mount Kenya’s main summits — Batian and Nelion. Over four days, trekkers traverse diverse landscapes, from montane forests and moorlands to alpine zones, before standing at the summit at sunrise.

Your Safari Story, One Day At A Time

Day Day 1
Nairobi – Nanyuki – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3300m)

Your Mount Kenya adventure begins with an early departure from Nairobi at 6:00 am, heading north through Kenya’s scenic highlands. By mid-morning, you’ll arrive in Nanyuki town at 10:30 am, the gateway to Mount Kenya, where a delicious lunch at the Ibis Hotel awaits.

At 11:30 am, the journey continues to the Sirimon Park Gate, where formalities are completed before stepping onto the trail. The afternoon features a gentle acclimatization trek, designed to ease you into the mountain environment while enjoying the lush montane forest.

By evening, you’ll reach Old Moses Camp (3300m), a high altitude cabin offering comfort and panoramic views. The day covers approximately 5 hours of trekking, setting the pace for the adventure ahead.

The day begins at 07:00 hrs, with a full day of trekking ahead. Expect approximately 8 hours of walking at a leisurely pace, a true test of patience, endurance, and determination as you ascend steadily along the Sirimon Track. Your route takes you into the Likii North Valley (3,990m), a picturesque valley nestled below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of Mount Kenya’s main peaks. The valley’s dramatic scenery and alpine vegetation provide a memorable backdrop for the climb. From here, you’ll ascend out of the valley and enter the expansive Mackinder’s Valley, one of the broadest and most iconic valleys on the mountain. This area is renowned for its striking giant groundsels and sweeping views of the towering peaks. By evening, you’ll reach Shipton’s Camp (4,300m), strategically located at the foot of Batian and Nelion, the two highest peaks of Mount Kenya. This camp offers a spectacular vantage point and prepares you for the summit attempt ahead. The most exhilarating day of the trek begins in the early hours at 02:00 hrs, with a head-torch start under the starry skies of Mount Kenya. This alpine ascent is the most demanding section of the expedition, requiring stamina, determination, and a strong mindset.

The route climbs the north face of Point Lenana (4,985m), a path less frequented by tourists, offering solitude and breathtaking views. After approximately four hours of steep trekking, you’ll stand at the summit just in time for sunrise over Mount Kenya — a truly unforgettable moment as the peaks of Batian and Nelion glow in the morning light.

At around 07:30 hrs, the descent begins back to Shipton’s Camp, where a well-earned breakfast awaits. The remainder of the day is spent resting and acclimatizing at camp, celebrating the achievement of conquering Point Lenana and soaking in the dramatic alpine scenery.

Day Day 4

The final day begins at 08:00 hrs with breakfast at Shipton’s Camp (4,300m). From here, you’ll embark on a 4-hour trek out of Mount Kenya National Park, descending steadily through the alpine and montane forest zones.

A stopover at Old Moses Camp (3,300m) provides a chance to rest and enjoy lunch before completing the descent. By midday, you’ll exit the park at the Sirimon Gate, where our safari van will be waiting to meet you.

The journey continues with a stopover in Nanyuki for lunch at the Ibis Hotel, a fitting way to conclude the trek. Departure from Nanyuki is scheduled for 13:00 hrs, with an afternoon road transfer back to Nairobi, marking the end of your unforgettable Four Days, Three Nights Sirimon Trek.
