The 4-Day Sirimon Down Sirimon Trek offers an exhilarating adventure on Mount Kenya. Starting from the Sirimon Gate, ascend through dense forests, moorlands, and rugged alpine landscapes. Camp at Old Moses and Shipton's camps, enjoying stunning views and acclimatizing to the altitude.
The trek includes a challenging but rewarding ascent to Point Lenana, the third-highest peak, where you can witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Kenyan plains. Descend back via the Sirimon route, experiencing diverse ecosystems and wildlife. This trek combines natural beauty, physical challenge, and the satisfaction of reaching a notable summit on Africa’s second-highest mountain.
Depart Nairobi at 0645 am to Nanyuki town. Thereafter proceed to the National Park gates on the Sirimon Trail with a lunch stop en route. Begin your climb for a 3-4 hour trek to Old Moses Camp (Judmaier) through a beautiful rainforest track uphill for 9km. At 3300m high, enjoy your dinner and overnight stay at Old Moses Camp, surrounded by magnificent views of the summits of Batian and Nelion peaks.
Rise up for breakfast before you depart to Shipton’s Camp which is set at the head of the Mackinder’s Valley, just below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion. Follow the direct route, until you reach the junction which goes to Likki North. You will be crossing several small streams to reach the crest of
the ridge. Trek out of the North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain, with many giant groundsels, , continue walking until you get to Shiptons camp 4250m, dinner/overnight (it normally takes 6-7 hrs from Old Moses to Shiptons).
very early in the morning, hiking starts (around 0245 am) and takes you up the North Ridge reaching the summit at 6.30 am, then after enjoying the views and taking photographs, descend down to Shipton’s camp for breakfast, after breakfast, continue walking down to Old Moses camp via Mackinders Valley for your dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, leave at 8.00 am you will descend to the Sirimon gate. From here be transferred to Nairobi in the morning, arriving in the city around lunchtime.
