Zanzibar

Zanzibar is accessible by air and sea. The most common way to reach the island is by flying into Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) located near Stone Town, the capital.

Several international airlines operate flights to Zanzibar from major cities in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Best Time to Visit Zanzibar is during the dry seasons, from June to October and December to February. During these periods, the weather is generally dry, with sunny days and pleasant temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F).

These months also offer excellent conditions for water activities like diving and snorkelling due to good visibility in the clear waters. The rainy seasons (March to May and November) can still be enjoyable, with fewer tourists and lush green landscapes, but expect occasional downpours.

Zanzibar caters to a range of travellers with accommodations ranging from luxurious resorts to budget-friendly guesthouses. Stone Town offers charming boutique hotels within its UNESCO-listed historic area, providing easy access to cultural sites and markets.

The northern beaches like Nungwi and Kendwa are known for their upscale resorts and vibrant nightlife. Meanwhile, the eastern coast boasts serene and secluded lodges perfect for relaxation. For a more local experience, Paje and Jambiani on the southeast coast offer affordable guesthouses and beachfront bungalows.

Zanzibar is composed of two main islands, Unguja (informally known as Zanzibar Island) and Pemba, along with smaller islets. The main island, Unguja, is where most visitors stay and includes the capital, Stone Town, as well as popular beach destinations along the northern and eastern coasts.
