Sirimon Track is one of the best routes to the peak areas. It offers some stylish views of the main peaks, with a step-by-step climb that can be done slowly. We track the mountain by climbing and descending Sirimon Track. encamping route. This route is considered by many to represent Mt Kenya one of the easiest routes to reach Point Lenana. The route is on the dry side of the mountain and affords walks through old-growth forestland on lower inclinations and giant heather, alpine flowers, and lobelia in advanced elevations.
DAY 1 – MT KENYA OLD MOSES
Depart Nairobi at 8.00 am towards Nanyuki, which normally takes 4hrs drive, arriving at around 12.00, then proceed to Mt Kenya. The drive could either be by Public Transports Vehicle or if in a group be prearranged a private transfer.
At Sirimon gate, picnic lunch will be provided. After lunch, we will start an acclimatization hike which will see us follow the track uphill for 10 kms walking in the tropical forest, occasionally enjoying the sighting of a monkey, a buffalo or even an elephant proceed to reach Old Moses camp which is situated at 3,300m for Dinner/overnight.
DAY 2 – MT KENYA LIKKI NORTH
After breakfast, leave at 8.00 am, start the hike of the moorland vegetation walking through the striking views of the Sirimon and the Mackinders valleys The track becomes a path, and swings right and south around the head of a large valley, crossing several small streams to reach the crest of the ridge between the Otulili and Liki North Valleys arriving at Likki North Hut in the early afternoon for Dinner/overnight
DAY 3 – MT KENYA SHIPTON’S
After breakfast, ascend the west side of the Valley, You will be crossing several small streams to reach the crest of the ridge. Trek out of the North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain, with many giant groundsels, , continue walking until you get to Shiptons camp
4250m, dinner/overnight (it normally takes 6-7 hrs from Old Moses to Shiptons).
DAY 4: POINT LENANA (4,985 M) (16,355 FT)- MINTOS HUT
very early in the morning, hiking starts (around 0245 am) Continue walking across tough scree, until you come across Harris Tarn. From Harris Tarn, continue up the North face of Point Lenana 4,985m, reaching the summit at 6.30 am, then after enjoying the views and taking photographs, descend down to Mintos hut 4,250m for your overnight stay.
DAY 5 MT. MERU BANDAS.
After breakfast continues ascending down to Meru Mount Kenya Bandas above Chogoria, following the Gorges Valley. It will take 5 hours to reach the bandas for Dinner/overnight.
DAY 6 DEPARTURE
After morning breakfast, continue walking down through the bamboo and indigenous forest to reach Bairunyi to meet up with your transport back to Nairobi.
